The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has a serious problem. They are not paying their workers properly, and if they can’t pay workers, can they pay farmers? The answer is clear: they cannot. This problem affects many families, as GMB workers have to take care of their basic needs. They need to feed their families, pay rent, cover transport costs, pay school fees, and even pay taxes. But they are struggling because their salaries are too low.
The root of this issue is the failure of the government, which is run by ZANU PF. The party has been in power for a long time and continues to hold onto power using the military and a compromised judiciary. It is clear that the government is more interested in staying in control than solving the problems that people face every day. They do not care about the welfare of the people.
Workers at GMB and Silo Food Industries are not happy with the salaries they are getting. The lowest-paid worker earns only thirty thousand Zimbabwean dollars. But this local currency is losing value every day. These salaries are based on the interbank rate, which is not the real picture of what is happening in the economy. People are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet as the cost of living keeps rising. The prices of basic goods and services are going up fast, but salaries are not keeping up.
What makes this situation worse is that many basic services, like water, food, healthcare, and education, are getting worse. People are finding it harder to get access to these essential things. These are basic human rights, but the government is failing to provide them. The quality of life for most people is going down because of the government’s failure to manage the economy.
Another problem is that the prices of goods and services are in US dollars, but most people are forced to use the failing local currency. This makes it harder for people to buy the things they need. The local currency has no real backing, which makes it unreliable. The government has not been transparent, and there is no accountability for how the economy is being run.
Now, if the government cannot pay GMB and Silo Food Industries workers, how can they expect to pay farmers who bring grain to the GMB? The farmers are essential for food security, but if they are not paid properly, they will not want to continue delivering grain. This has already caused Zimbabwe to have one of the highest food inflation rates in the world. This is a situation that does not seem to be improving anytime soon.
Instead of fixing the problems in the economy, the government continues to focus on staying in power. Some suggest that GMB workers and farmers might be sent to learn about government ideology instead of being paid fairly. This is just another sign that the government is not taking the problems of ordinary people seriously.
In conclusion, the GMB’s failure to pay its workers is a clear sign of a deeper problem. If they can’t pay their workers, they certainly can’t pay farmers. The cost of living is rising, services are getting worse, and people are suffering. The government needs to stop focusing on power and start addressing the real problems that people are facing. Until that happens, Zimbabwe will continue to struggle with high inflation, poor services, and unhappy workers and farmers.
