Last year, the government blamed long power cuts on low water levels in Lake Kariba. They said that there was not enough water to produce electricity. But this excuse does not make sense anymore. The rainy season just ended, so water levels should be higher. Yet, the electricity problem has not been fixed, and it shows a deeper problem with the way things are run. People in rural areas, many of whom live in small, simple homes made of mud and poles, may not understand how badly this affects their lives, even though they depend on industries that need electricity to work.

Whether you live in a house with electricity or not, the power crisis will still affect you. This crisis is caused by the ZANU PF government, which has become corrupt and no longer cares about the people. They do not follow the laws of the country, and they do not provide the basic services that people need to survive. Many people are living in extreme poverty, and the lack of affordable and reliable electricity makes life even harder.

Imagine you are a family in a rural area without electricity. You rely on food aid, but that aid is given based on who supports the ruling party. Your son has a young wife, and she is pregnant. One day, she goes into labor early, and the baby is born too soon. The baby needs to be put in an incubator to survive, but there is no electricity to run the incubator. Because of this, the baby dies.

This situation shows how much we all need electricity for everything in life, even for basic things like healthcare. But the government does not care. They are more focused on staying in power than on helping the people. The law says that the people have the right to choose their leaders through elections. But ZANU PF does not respect these rights. The elections are controlled by a biased and unprofessional electoral commission that only serves the interests of the ruling party.

ZANU PF wants to create a one-party state, a country where only they rule. If they continue to cheat in elections and stay in power, the electricity crisis will only get worse. We could end up living in the dark ages again, with no hope of things getting better. The government should be providing electricity to everyone, but they have failed. Instead of working to improve people’s lives, they are focused on stealing and keeping power.

The people of Zimbabwe deserve better. They deserve a government that cares about them and provides basic services like electricity. The current government has shown that it is not capable of doing this. They are only interested in their own power and wealth. Meanwhile, ordinary people continue to suffer, especially in rural areas. Industries are shutting down, hospitals can’t function properly, and people are being denied their basic rights.

The electricity crisis is just one example of how the government is failing the people. It shows how corrupt and inefficient ZANU PF has become. They blame the power cuts on things like low water levels, but the truth is that they have not invested in the country’s infrastructure. They have not taken care of the power plants or made any real effort to fix the problem. Instead, they focus on their own political goals while the people are left in the dark.

If this situation continues, Zimbabwe will fall further into darkness. The people need to stand up for their rights and demand a government that will serve them, not just the interests of a few powerful people. The electricity crisis is a warning sign that things need to change, and the only way to bring that change is by holding the government accountable. It is time for the people of Zimbabwe to speak out and demand better leadership, before it’s too late.
